It was a cold man night…

Three men in black coats stood at the end of a dirt road. The light from a single distant streetlamp reflected in a puddle of water as a dog barked and the rain drizzled…

They were musicians and songwriters, had traveled the world on the underground rock & roll train, played endless one-night-stands, a thousand towns, made records, shared stages with the greats, made valiant attempts to look forward and add to the continuum. Every effort was worthwhile. You never know who’s listening…

But now they stood here in front of some lonesome roadhouse on a weeknight in some godforsaken “C” market, feeling like a small army of rats, a brigade: the cast-offs, not photogenic enough or weird enough for magazine covers or interviews, not quite “something” enough…

But they could play. And write. And think beyond the simple derivative musical excuses of the times…

And the rain pooled on that dirt road and created an idea, as rain often does.

It was a cold man night…
